VALPOI: Valpoi Police on Sunday arrested five jawans of Tamil Nadu CRPF on charges of beating a local at Morlem-Sattari.
According to Valpoi PI Ramesh Gaonkar, CRPF jawans from Tamil Nadu had come to Goa for a picnic in a bus from Karnataka (KA-42-1417). On Saturday evening, they visited historical sites at Morlem.
Police further informed that the jawans flung a liquor bottle on the car belonging to a local. However, when the local enquired with them, the jawans allegedly started beating him. Seeing this, some locals rushed to the site, which resulted in clashes between the locals and the five jawans.
Valpoi Police rushed to the site and pacified the locals. The locals demanded immediate arrest of the five jawans.
On Sunday morning, Valpoi Police arrested the five jawans ~ Chanchal Kumar, Memnin Alvar, T Kamal Raj, Reserarch Miralil and Ravi Kumar Pillai. They were later released on bail.
Valpoi Police registered the case under Sections 143, 147, 323, 324, 341 and 149 of IPC and is investigating the case.
