VASCO: Deepak Naik was elected as chairperson and Shashikant Parab as vice chairperson of the Mormugao Municipal Council. They and the 23 councillors were also sworn into office.
Naik has stated that the new council will not sit idly like the previous council and will start working from that day itself. To begin with, they will ensure that Vasco becomes garbage-free within six months. He also informed that his second important priority was to take up the pending recovery of dues as the same had left the MMC in a severe financial crisis.
Naik was elected as chairperson after securing 17 votes, while his opponent Bhavana Nanoskar got seven votes. Councillor Sarita Palkar was absent. Shashikant Parab defeated Murari Bandekar with a similar margin for the vice chairperson’s post.
