VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Thursday came out with a special time table with regards to the immersion of Ganesh idols to avoid crowding considering the pandemic.

The special meeting was convened by Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson Nandadeep Raut to provide clarity on the upcoming Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav.
Raut informed that around 18 people were part of this meeting which celebrates Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav annually in the Port town. Chitrashalas (Ganesh idol making workshops) have been asked to follow norms such social distancing, use of sanitisers for visitors and compulsory wearing of masks. Suggestion for home delivery of idols was also discussed at the meeting.
He said it was also decided to have one-and-half day celebration for the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav to avoid crowding. Three timings of one hour each for the idol immersion have been prepared for all 25 wards.
The Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson urged locals to follow the safety norms strictly while purchasing goods in the market for the festival.
He informed that stall keepers and vendors will be asked to maintain a safe distance before conducting their business. There are plans to keep the market open till late night to avoid crowding.
Meanwhile, Vinayak Kala Sangh (VKS), Patrong-Baina in a press release has stated that this year due to the pandemic the annual general body meeting has decided to organise this year’s Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav only for one-and-a-half days on August 22 and 23 in the MMC Garden, Patrong-Baina without any programme by following the SOP.
the Vinayak Kala Sangh has informed the devotees that this year it will not collect donations at their residences.
