MAPUSA: Candolim Sports Club huffed and puffed before holding Benny XI, Mapusa to a 2-2 draw in the GFA’s 2nd Division League played at Poriat ground, Calangute, on Thursday.
In a well contested encounter, Benny XI broke the deadlock in the10th minute of play when Candolim SC keeper Frazier managed to stop Chandan Gawas powerful goal bound shot only to see Clinton Barros who was lurking nearby tapped the ball into the nets, 1-0.
Candolim SC did not waste much time and responded with the equalizer within two minutes Richard Cardoz scoring from close range, 1-1.
Candolim SC too got a a glorious chance to surge ahead when they were awarded a penalty kick by referee Tejas Nagvekar after he found Sebastian D’Costa guilty of handling the ball inside the 18-yard box. However, Cannute Fernandes, who stepped forward to take the kick failed to convert.
In the last quarter of the match, Lyndon Vaz and Oswin Goveia saw their efforts being kept away by the Candolim SC custodian Frazier.
Changing ends, Benny XI were awarded a penalty kick after Candolim SC’s Gideon Dovi brought on a harsh tackle on Chandan Gawas inside the danger zone. Baggio Monteiro fired home again to put Benny XI into the lead, 2-1.
In the injury time, Candolim SC stunned their opponents by netting in the equalizer through Ashley Lobo whose blistering long range effort found no answer from the rival keeper, 2-2.
At Quitula ground, A. A. De Moira got the better of PVC Parra by a 2-0 win.
Moira scored a goal in each session of play through Siddesh Kesarkar (20th minute) and Sachinan and Satelkar in the 75th minute.
