PANJIM: In an unfortunate turn of events, on the day when a family of four was set to shift to their new bungalow at Porvorim, and had purchased a new car, the mother, a doctor by profession, apparently took the extreme step of killing herself and her two minor daughters.
Dr Vaishali Kambli is believed to have jumped into the river along with her daughters, early Monday morning.
The Porvorim police are probing all angles, including whether she walked into deep water or jumped off the Mandovi Bridge. “The locals had found the scooter on the Mandovi Bridge and informed the police about the incident,” the PI Manoj Mardolkar said.
Police sources said the couple and their daughters were supposed to shift from the three-bedroom flat to a new bungalow and get the delivery of Hyundai i20 car from a local car showroom, both on Monday.
“They lived together with the husband’s parents in the same flat. The couple had purchased the bungalow to live separately and were supposed to shift on Monday,” said the officer.
The police said the wife was reportedly depressed. The couple was married in 2001.
PI Manoj Mardolkar, when contacted by Herald, said the husband has mentioned in the statement that she was visiting a psychiatrist. “We don’t know the details because the husband is in a state of shock. He could only tell us that much,” he said.
