Wagh suggests flyover from Bambolim to Agassaim to save fields

PANJIM: St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh has suggested construction of a flyover, if required, from Bambolim to Agassaim to save houses and fields, even as he impressed upon PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar not to destroy any more cultivable land while executing plans to ease traffic on the route.
The PWD Minister had a hard time at the Goa Assembly on Tuesday trying to fend off question from MLAs from both the ruling and Opposition benches over pending PWD work in their constituencies.
Wagh sought to know the status of road widening from Agassaim to Goa Velha and Siridao to Bambolim and urged the PWD Minister to ensure that no houses are demolished in the process.
The chorus started with Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar who expressed his anguish over non-completion of a road in Khola panchayat in his constituency. “Even though work orders were issued last year, there is one year delay in starting the work,” he said, asking Dhavalikar the reasons for the delay.
During Zero Hour, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai sought to know why the PWD ministry was ‘sleeping tight’ over the increasing traffic problems plaguing the Nuvem-Margao route. He said, “The problem has been persisting for the last few years and even ambulances carrying the sick cannot move swiftly to reach hospitals.”
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte seemed aggrieved that despite increasing sewerage problems in Porvorim, his constituency has not been considered for a sewerage treatment plant in Budget 2013-14.
Dhavalikar assured redressal of their issues in the months to come, blaming the delay on the election code and overload of tendered works by the previous government. “We will try to complete your work before the monsoons,” he told Kavlekar.
As regards the road widening from Agassaim to Bambolim, he told Vishnu Wagh that the four / six laning proposal of NH-17 has been submitted to the Centre and is awaiting approval and he would ensure protection of fields and houses.
Sardesai was informed that land acquisition for four-laning of the Nuvem to Margao stretch has yet to get a NOC from TCP. Sardesai also suggested that there should be a subway at this location.
At the demand for a Sewerage Treatment Plant at Porvorim, Dhavalikar told Khaunte that the proposal was yet to get the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) approval. “It will cost at least Rs 1,000 crore and Goa’s share would be Rs 300 crore. We have to see how to raise the money,” Dhavalikar told the Porvorim MLA.
Khaunte was told that until then arrangements would be made to provide the constituency with at least 2 night-soil tankers.
