Companies ask employees from Mangor Hill to work from home

panjim: On Monday evening, many companies have asked their staff members who are living in Vasco’s Mangor Hill area, to work from home. Mangor Hill, which had surfaced with positive Covid19 cases, has been declared as containment zone, the first in Goa, since the outbreak of virus in the country.

Goa Shipyard Ltd’s (GSL) Public Relation Officer, Nikhil Wagh told Herald that, “Last evening we have issued an advisory for people staying in Mangor Hill area to work from home till further orders and we have also requested them to follow all government norms and instructions.” There are around 25 people who are staying in Mangor Hill and are working for GSL.

Mormugao Port Trust (MPT)’s spokesperson said that there are not too many people working for MPT who are staying in Mangor Hill but they have conveyed to the few who are staying there to continue to work from home. 

 “In fact if they are in containment zone, then they will naturally be not allowed to move out,” said the spokesperson.

Goa State Industries Association (GSIA) President, Damodar Kochkar said that there were queries before him and he has advised them to follow the instructions given by the government. “Being in containment zone, people will not be allowed to move anyways. Whatever guidelines which have been laid by the government authorities, we need to follow them very stringently and there should not be any relaxation on that.

Verna Industries Association President, Pradip Da Costa said that not many people working in the Verna Industrial Estate (VIE), stay in Mangor Hill and hence it is not affected much. “Many of the workers from VIE stay near Verna and we are not much affected,” said the new VIA President.
