PANJIM: The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak party Thursday said that it would fight the upcoming Lok Sabha (LS) polls in alliance with the BJP. The duo had won the March 2012 assembly polls, defeating the Congress and decimating the NCP.
MGP chief Ramakrishna Sudin Dhavalikar on Tuesday categorically stated that ‘his party will support the BJP and is not interested in having any political tie-ups with any national parties for the elections’.
However, the party has not taken any decision on whether it will contest any of the seats –North or South Goa, for the polls. Currently, BJP holds the North Goa seat while the South Goa seat is with the Congress.
“Let the elections be declared. Leaders from both parties will sit and discuss the elections before deciding on the candidate,” Dhavalikar, Minister in BJP-led cabinet, said.
“Whatever are the party strategies or decisions on selection of candidates, they will be taken leaders of both parties,” he added.
Dhavalikar also rubbished rumours that his party is contemplating on withdrawing support to the government to form an alternate alliance and claim wrest power in the state. “I am not interested in such games. I am not interested in becoming Chief Minister. Right now the government under Manohar Parrikar is doing fairly well,” he said.
“The previous government has looted the State…complete mess…there is no point or any interest in sharing alliance with such people…we are happy here…working for development of State,” Dhavalikar said.
MGP had joined hands with BJP prior to the state assembly elections, ending its alliance with Congress. The BJP won 21 seats and MGP three, while Congress got nine and NCP drew a blank.
