MAPUSA: Candolim Sports Club scored a narrow 1-0 win over Holiday Sports Club, Arpora to move into the next round of the Hotel Goan Heritage Soccer Cup organized by Calangute Association at Poriat ground, Calangute, on Thursday.
Both the sides started brightly, looking to wrap up the match in their favour however it was Candolim SC who scored the only goal of the match in the 25th minute of play. Sankit Jotkar on getting hold of a loose ball charged into the Holiday Sports Club danger zone and was viciously brought down by the keeper Ritesh Narvekar inside the penalty area, thereby initiating the referee to point to the penalty spot.
Terrance D’Mello who stepped forward to take the penalty, made no mistake in scoring, 1-0.
Crossing over, Candolim SC had a glorious chance to further inflate the margin, however Rajat Chopdekar’s power-packed strike was acrobatically kept away by the diving Holiday Sports Club custodian Ritesh.
