PANJIM: Over a year after the State government announced to hike monthly remuneration of lecture-basis teachers working in government high schools to Rs 25,000, the teachers claimed that they are yet to get the benefit and continue to work at a salary of Rs 150 per lecture.

Addressing media persons on Tuesday, All Goa High School Lecture-Basis Teachers said that they are yet to get any benefit of the government’s decision.
“We continue to get salary of Rs 150 per lecture. Before COVID-19 pandemic, we use to get four lectures a day, which are now reduced to only two lectures a day,” they said.
Teachers said Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had in 2020 announced to hike monthly-remuneration to Rs 25,000 along with providing job security to those who have completed more than five years into the service.
“Majority of us are into service for more than 10-15 years. Some have even crossed 40 years of their age and it’s time that they get the job security and proper payment,” they said demanding that the Chief Minister should immediately issue order in writing with regards to payment and job security.
Teachers said, “Several representation to various Ministers and MLAs have been made to the Chief Minister and his failure to act, has forced them to approach media for justice.”
Most government high schools and secondary schools are driven by lecture-basis teachers, who comprises almost 70-75 per cent in most of the institutions.
In a meeting held with education officials in June last year, it was decided to hike the remuneration to Rs 25,000 from existing Rs 16,000 for lecture-basis teachers and Rs 22,000 to part-time instructors under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), who are also currently protesting over failure to fulfill the demand.
