SANGUEM: The over 50-year-old building of Sanguem Municipal Council popularly known as Town Hall, is a disaster waiting to happen given its pathetic condition.
Constructed in 1970, the building is visibly worn out and may collapse if concrete steps are not taken immediately even though permission was sought for its demolition three years ago.

It would be relevant to point out that in 2020 following a report submitted on this structure by the Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi, the Sanguem Municipal Council sought permission to demolish it and the Directorate of Municipal Administration had even granted the permission.
After getting the permission, the council invited tenders to demolish the building and even issued work orders. The work of demolishing the building was awarded to one Anton Gaonkar for an amount or around Rs. 5 lakhs.
However, the demolition was halted as some shopkeepers who are in possession of a portion of the building refused to vacate till they were given alternate site.
Queiroz Crus, vice chairperson of Sanguem Municipal Council said the shopkeepers continue to operate at those premises despite numerous notices from the council to vacate the premises.
