Ranti Martins continued his great form in 32nd Federation Cup as he scored a brace to guide Dempo to a 2-0 victory over AIFF XI (Colts) in a Group C match at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana on Thursday.
Riding high on 5-2 win against ONGC in the last match, Dempo opened the account in the 14th minute through Ranti Martins’ spot kick. The striker was brought down by AIFF XI defender Raju Gaikwad inside the box.
Desmond Bulpin boys did show some character in the second half, but their fightback once again received a serious blow as Ranti completed his brace in the 79th minute. Peter Carvalho provided the cross from the right flank, which was neatly headed in by Dempo’s prolific striker.
The win puts Dempo in commanding position in Group C with six points from two matches.
JCT were knocked out of the competition after going down to ONGC 1-2 in the second Group C league match today.
Mizoram lad F.Lalmuanpuia scored both goals for ONGC, while Ajay Singh was the lone scorer for JCT.
Dempo are sitting comfortably at the top with six points.
Pune FC notched up their first win scoring a fluent 2-0 victory over Air India in a Group A match at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack today.
After suffering a surprising defeat at the hands of HAL in their opening encounter, a win was the utmost requirement to put things back on track for Derrick Pereira coached side and they did it in style with two quick goals in the opening half.
Reisang Pamme gave a dream start to Pune FC as he found the back of the net in the 3rd minute, while former Mahindra United midfielder Paresh Shivalkar added another one in the 16th minute as the Airmen were thrown out of the contest very early.
East Bengal registered their second win on the trot and defeated HAL, Bangalore 2-1 to stay in the contention for a place in the semi-finals.
HAL took a surprise lead in the 8th minute through Abdulla Hamza. Six minutes later former JCT midfielder Penn Orji restored the parity. Tolgay Ozbey netted the winner in the 34th.
