MARGAO: A workshop to make environment a priority for the students was conducted for South Goa high school teachers in Margao on Saturday morning.
Around ninety teachers from various schools participated in the workshop that was conducted by three personalities from different fields, but related to nature.
Personality development speaker Pravin Sabnis launched the programme by speaking on how nature can be used as a teaching tool.
He named various trees and animals whose behavior can be used to teach certain things to students and how the children can be made to love nature through these insights.
Botanical Society of Goa Secretary Minguel Braganza dealt on the issue of how teachers can be motivators for children and gave examples how teachers have made a difference to the society by promoting environment-related activities.
He also named Seby Pinto, who started the festival of plants and flowers at Siolim, which is now held for the 25th consecutive year.
Rajendra Kerkar cited various places in Goa that are nature lovers’ delight and stressed the need to connect students with nature through treks, hikes, natural trails, etc.
He, however, also cautioned students against venturing into forests without knowing the safety of the area.
The workshop was organized by Lions Club of Margao Central as part of promoting environmental activities.
