Election office targets youth voters through Facebook

PANJIM: Goan youth who are regular users of Facebook are going to receive a reminder on the news feeds asking them to enroll onto the voters list.

 The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Goa in association with Facebook India has planned a special drive to enroll young voters and encourage youth to enroll in the electoral roll. 
“CEO Goa and Facebook India have jointly planned a special drive to enroll young voters who are regular user of Facebook. At the time of the draft publication there was a 25% gap in the young voter group and Facebook will become a unique medium to communicate with young voters. We are determined to see that no voter is left behind from registration,” said CEO Kunal.
“Over 155 million people in India are on Facebook, the ‘register to vote’ button is from 8th to 9th October, Facebook users in Goa who are 18 years and above will receive a reminder in their news feed to register to vote for a day. By clicking on the ‘register now’ button, people will be directed to the National Voters’ Services Portal which will guide them through the registration process,” he added.
