VASCO: Anxious moments prevailed along the Marivel-Dona Paula beach stretch on Saturday afternoon as fishermen noticed dead fish being washed ashore.
However, the locals were unsure whether the fish died due to poisoning. Some fishermen claimed that the same was previous day’s catch, which stayed in the sea on account of bad weather.
On Saturday, the local fishermen including youth, senior citizens and women from Marivel Beach held a meeting to decide on the future course of action against the “Nu Shi Nalini” vessel, which has turned into an eyesore for the last several days.
The irate locals have accused the authorities of failing to take them into confidence regarding the stranded vessel.
According to information, locals have decided to meet the Governor to address their grievances with regards to the stranded vessel.
Locals claimed that they have demanded that the Government should immediately unload the inflammable cargo or tow the vessel away from Marivel.
A fisherman said the exact reason behind dead fish is not yet known but it could be due to water contamination.
Another fisherman said one of them had ventured into the sea two days ago and had caught fish but failed to remove the same from the net due to bad weather. The fish died and may have washed ashore.
