CHANDOR: St Anthony SC, Assolda trounced favourites, Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 3-1 to advance to the finals of the 14th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup,played at Chandor church ground.
The team from Assolda were clearly the better team right from the start with their strikers going flat out against the Fatorda defence.
In the 15th minute of the match, Benson Fernandes of Assolda was fed by teammate Cajitan Fernandes and the latter lobbed the ball over the onrushing Fatorda keeper to give Assolda the lead.
Don Bosco did show some moments of brilliance but were denied on a couple of occasions by the ever alert Assolda keeper Johnson Fernandes. Assolda led by 1-0 at the break.
Soon after resumption, Benson Fernandes latched on to a through ball from Succor Fernandes and calmly placed the ball in the far corner of the net to double Assolda’s lead. In the 55th minute, Agneas Vaz of Assolda collected the ball in his own half and dribbled past a host of Fatorda defenders to score a wonderful solo goal to put the issue beyond doubt.
In the last minute of the match, Valito Miranda of Don Bosco scored a consolation goal by beating the offside trap.
St Anthony SC Assolda now await the winners of the second semi-final between Tilamola United SC and Fr Agnelo YSC, Paroda which is to be played today.
