SANGUEM: Parents of students studying at Union High School and a primary school located in the Sanguem town area have urged the need for immediate deputation of policemen on the roads proceeding to Union High school and the other one proceeding to the Sanguem Bus Stand.
With a student capacity of about 900 students for both the schools, a mad rush is created by the students in the afternoon hours on their way back home. And with not policemen in tow to control the vehicular traffic on either side during peak hours, fears were expressed by the parents and students alike of accidents taking place particularly in the afternoon hours when the students are in a hurry to catch their home bound public transport buses.
Though some months back, a practice was followed by the men in uniform to man the junction at Sanguem Bus Stand during the school hours to facilitate the students safely cross the roads, the practice stands discontinued for quite  some time now thereby putting to risk the lives of the high school and the primary students.
To make matters worse, the afternoon timings are also specifically used by the trucks carrying laterite and  basalt stones to ferry their material as it is during afternoon hours the roads remain free from the watchful eyes from the men in uniform both traffic and the RTO.
Ironically two to three policemen are placed on regular duty from 8.30 to 12.30 p.m. near the Government Primary School, Sanguem to avoid any unwanted happenings from taking place during school hours.  These policemen are however relieved from duty at 12.30 p.m. when their presence however is of utmost importance.
The management of Union High School has, however, taken precautions to avoid the road from being crowded at one time by leaving the classes with a break of one minute in between two classes, the problem does not stands solved to an extreme extent. The extreme solution however lies in the deputation of policemen at the junction near Sanguem Bus stand and near Union High School from 1.30 to 2.00 p.m.
