PANJIM: The Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, along with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan recently held a state-level workshop on issues related to Corporal Punishment and Right to Education (RTE) to sensitise headmasters of secondary schools.
About 150 headmasters attended the workshop, where SETHU Director Dr Nandita DeSouza, Adv Emidio Pinho and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan State Coordinator Suhas Thakur Desai spoke.
GSCPCR, Chairperson Dr Sushma P Kirtani explained the physical, mental and emotional effects of corporal punishment and urged participants to instruct teachers so that corporal punishment can be abolished from Goa. Secretary to the Commission Padma Jaiswal stressed on the need of fearless education in schools and how schools should make education more enjoyable.
Education Director GP Bhat spoke on alternative methods to discipline the child at school without using corporal punishment. He urged headmasters to ask questions to the resource persons so that their doubts were cleared.
