Acting on a complaint lodged by the Fabrica Attorney Basil Fernandes, the Maina Curtorim police arrested Floyd Gomes, a resident of Raia under Sections 447 and 323 IPC for trespass and assault. He was later released on bail.
Speaking to the media, Parish pastoral council moderator, Roque Dias said that accused Gomes trespassed in church property and assaulted the attorney Basil and Assistant Parish priest Fr Daylon D’Costa who suffered simple injuries adding that the accused was aggrieved over the closure of the Church school boundary wall.
When contacted attorney Fernandes informed that the accused had objected to the closure of the boundary wall opening of church school property which was being carried as per directive of education department. That on earlier occasions accused had demolished the boundary wall opening which had been closed and on August 25 even threatened the parish priest for closing the same. On Monday when attorney along with labourers closed the opening, the accused is said to have trespassed inside church property and tried to assault Fernandes with flash hammer and when the assistant parish priest went to his rescue, he too was assaulted. Further investigation is in progress.
