PONDA: The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), whose two MLAs defected into BJP, has now decided to file disqualification petition in Supreme Court against twelve MLAs including two party legislators.

MGP president Deepak Dhavalikar informed media persons about the decision after offering floral tributes at the Martyr Memorial at Ponda on Goa Revolution Day.
When questioned on the delay in filing the plea, he said, “The petition is ready, but to COVID pandemic, the process got delayed. Now, we have made all arrangements via internet including that of a lawyer and petition will be filed by tomorrow.” He said, “The Congress filed the disqualification petition earlier and we too will file the same to get justice at the earliest.”
The MGP chief expects the same verdict from SC in this case like the Manipur one. “Those who are defecting or jumping from one party to another must be taught a lesson and this is the opinion of the people of Goa,” he said and alleged that the State government is formed out of defections and should receive jolt at some point of time.
“The 10th Schedule of the Constitution does not give any freedom to MLA to defect from party. Party permission is important and that if party splits and joins another then only MLAs can defect,” he said.
