CJP Issues Ultimatum: Resign or Face October 10 Delhi March

India experienced an event-filled weekend marked by growing political friction, major international sports achievements, and regional border tensions.

On the political front, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) intensified its nationwide anti-establishment campaign by issuing an ultimatum demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Addressing thousands of supporters at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on Gandhi Jayanti, CJP convener Abhijeet Dipke warned that if the Chief Election Commissioner fails to step down, the party will organize a massive march to New Delhi on October 10. Dipke affirmed that the march would remain peaceful, pledging to follow Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of nonviolent resistance. This ultimatum follows a crackdown in New Delhi on Friday, where police detained over 700 demonstrators and opposition leaders under Section 163 restrictions barring large public assemblies. The protest movement, which originated online in May, has gained substantial momentum, having previously triggered the resignation of former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in late July.

Simultaneously, India celebrated multiple historic victories at the Asian Games in Japan. The Indian men’s cricket team successfully defended its Asian Games gold medal by defeating archrivals Pakistan by 19 runs in the final held in Nagoya. Driven by a blistering 61 off 20 balls from opener Abhishek Sharma, India posted a commanding total of 211-6 before restricting Pakistan to 192-6. On the turf, the Indian men’s hockey team clinched back-to-back Asian Games gold medals by defeating Malaysia 5-1 in the final, securing automatic qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. This victory followed a landmark achievement by the Indian women’s hockey team, which defeated defending champions China 1-0 to claim their first Asian Games gold in 44 years and earn their own 2028 Olympic spot. In golf, Pranavi Urs scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win Asian Games individual golf gold, finishing at 15-under par to edge out her competitors by a single stroke.

On the diplomatic and security front, fresh border tensions emerged between India and Pakistan. Islamabad summoned India’s charge d’affaires on Saturday to lodge a formal protest over an incident in the Bedian sector along the Punjab border, alleging that Border Security Force (BSF) personnel opened fire and killed two unarmed Pakistani civilians while injuring another. Indian media reports offered a conflicting narrative, stating that the individuals were suspected infiltrators attempting to cross into Indian territory—a claim Pakistan rejected.
