It’s really sad when we encounter our own native personalities with hostility that can actually bring you to a verge of defining Goa as a hostile environment because Goa is not Goa anymore.
I would like to share a simple example of basic etiquette that can have a great impact on our principles of ‘Goemkarponn’. I along with my wife went to a congested spot in Margao with my car and since there was no place to park my car I decided to park it in on the private route to a residential colony where there was enough room to park another car, less than a minute as I was getting out of my car a gentleman came to me
and with a very rude and threatening approach commanding me to remove my car from that spot otherwise to face the consequences to which I replied to him with a respectful tone “Just give me a few minutes I just want to visit the adjacent building and I will leave in about 10-15 minutes” .
There was so much of hostility in his voice that I forgot there was any Goemkarponn left in our beautiful Goa. To my surprise I heard someone in a very polite and humble tone addressing me “Baba texhi zago asa, yo hanv dacoita tuka ” (Son, there is a place on the other side, come I will show you) that was the turning point for me to decide that there is
a big gap between our ancestral culture and the modern lifestyle that has no meaning or value for that humble and welcoming Goemkarponn that is diminishing day by day.
Believe it or not, that soothing voice that cooled down my temper only a few seconds away from an argument was none other than a personality who is not an original Goan nor a literate, was a non-Goan who has habituated to the true Goan culture and with great respect I can call him a Human being rather than the literate personalities who call themselves Goans. Although we live in Goa we are forgetting the welcoming culture of true GOEMKARPONN!!
