MARGAO: Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem emerged the champions of the 40th All Goa Chandor Seamen Trophy inter village football tournament organized by Chandor Club defeating Wilred Leisure Sports Club 5-4 via tiebreaker in a thrilling final at Chandor ground, on Sunday .
In an evenly fought encounter, chances were far and few with the defence of both the teams not allowing the rival attackers much space.
With the regulation time ending in a stalemate, the tie-breaker was brought in to play and Guardian Angel Sports Club held their nerves to come out victorious. They scored through Rovel Fernandes, Joy Costa, Patric Lima, Ashof D’Costa and Soccoro Colaco while Bruno Fernandes, Nelson Fernandes , Joaquim Carvalho and Peter Pereira found the mark for Wilred Leisure Sports Club .
Guardian Angel Sports Club were richer by Rs 40,000 and a glittering trophy while Wilred Leisure Sports Club received Rs 30,000 And a trophy
The following individual prizes were awarded: Best goalkeeper of the final – Alliston Fernandes of Guardian Angel SC; Best defender the final — Soccoro Colaco of Guardian Angel SC; Best forward of the final — Tony Dias of Wilfred Leisure SC; Best half — Peter Pereira of Wilred Leisure SC; Upcoming player of the tournament — Ivon Pinto of Chandor Club; Committed player of Chandor — Velroy Fernandes of Chandor Club.
Joaquim Alemao Ex Urban Minister was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Guest of Honour Seema Dias Zilla member Sarzora constituency ,Dr Mahendra Kudchadkar sports medicine surgeon and Suresh Kudchadkar former footballer. Etelvina Travasso Sarpanch VP Chandor presided while special invitees Rev Fr Manuel Rodrigues Assistant Parish priest, Chandor Church and Hugo Machado, Churchill brothers footballers, Fr Manuel Piety Fernandes and Sudin Vernekar were present.
