San Joao rain dance at Chinchinim
PANJIM: Stanley Brian Pereira, President and Founder member of Spreading Hands Charitable Society, located in Salcete, will be organizing 1st all Goa dance competition and 6th traditional Sao Joao rain dance competition on June 22 at CRCC Ground, Chinchinim from 1 pm onwards, in aid of positive children orphanage at Rivona. Tourist injured on Anjuna beach
CALANGUTE: A 52-year-old tourist from Ajmer-Rajasthan sustained fracture injuries, while four other tourists were rescued by lifeguards at Anjuna beach on Friday. According to reports, about 25 tourists were near the rocky area at Anjuna Beach. Ignoring requests from the lifeguards, five tourists climbed the rocks for photography. Sudenly, a huge wave hit the rocks and all the five tourists fell in knee-deep water in the rocks. Lifeguards rushed to their aid and brought four tourists to the shore. A tourist, Rakesh Gaur, was unable to move among the rocks and called for help. Lifeguards brought him to the shore. Since the victim had severely fractured his leg, he was handed over to ambulance staff.
Patna tourist booked
PANJIM: A tourist from Patna has been booked for ‘criminal breach of trust’ after he failed to return the hired two-wheeler to its original owner. Panjim police have registered an offense under section 406 of Indian Penal Code against Laxman Kumar Sahoo. According to complainant James D’Mello, the tourist hired Honda Activa GA-01-T-8032 on June 3 and failed to return it.

Painting, photography contest for kids
PANJIM: National Centre for Child’s Culture Egyptian Ministry of Culture has organized international competition for painting and photography- 2013 on the theme ‘Egypt in the eyes of Children of the World’ for children in the age group of 4 to 18 years. The size of the paintings must not be less than 30 x 40 cm and any technique is permitted except black pencil. Computer graphics are also allowed. For photography, the size must not be less than 30 x 44 cm or 13 x 18 cm. Entry should be sent directly to the Foreign Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture, 44 Messha, St Dokki, Giza, Arab Republic of Egypt. For photograph last date is June 30 and painting is November 30.

Cash, electronic items stolen at Divar
OLD GOA: Cash and electronic items worth about Rs 23,800 was stolen from a house at Ambaiwada-Divar. According to Old Goa Police, Francis D’Sa complained that some persons entered his house by break opening the lock of the rear door and stole one camera, one wrist watch, charging light and cash of Rs 5,000, all worth Rs 23,799. ASI S A Naik is investigating the case.
Socorro local drowns
PORVORIM: A fishing trip came to a tragic end when a 40-year-old man from Socorro drowned in a rivulet at Vadem.
According to the Mapusa Fire Services, Luis Winson Fernandes had gone fishing with a friend in the rivulet on Friday morning. Fernandes lost balance and fell into the rivulet.
His friend alerted locals and the Mapusa Fire Services and Mapusa Police were notified about the incident. Despite a prolonged search, Fernandes could not be located.
The body was found floating in the rivulet on Saturday morning and a team of fire fighters recovered it and handed it to Mapusa Police. The body was sent for an autopsy and a medical report confirmed that Fernandes had died due to drowning. Police SI Vishwajeet Chodanker is investigating.

Minor girl kidnapped
MARGAO: A minor girl, aged 15, hailing from Salcete, is reported to have been kidnapped by an unknown person. A complaint in this regard was registered by the girl’s aunt with the Margao police on Saturday.
According to police sources, the girl was staying with her relatives. They said she was in the habit of staying at some of her relatives place in Goa. According to the aunt of the girl who on May 28 had filed a missing report with Margao police, her efforts to trace her niece had yielded no results. She could not be traced at any of the relatives place, she said.
One convicted for culpable homicide
MARGAO: The South Goa Additional District and Sessions judge on Saturday convicted Premanand Shetye, 29, under section 304 (A) IPC for culpable homicide not amounting to murder for death of Ganpati Ambik, 35. The accused will now be heard on point of sentence on June 18.
Seven witnesses were examined by public prosecutor Asha Arsekar on behalf of the prosecution in the case.
Accused Shetye, who was working as Khalasi on a trawler at Cutbona, Velim on August 13, 2012, had allegedly caused drowning of his colleague Ambik, a cook, by pushing him in the water over an altercation. The accused had also assaulted Shrikant Shail, the tandel, on the trawler.
Cuncolim PI Raju Raut Desai who arrested Shetye had registered an offence of murder under sections 302 (murder), 323 (assault) of IPC against Shetye.
Navelim consumer forum meeting
MARGAO: The Navelim Civic and Consumer Forum (NCCF) will have its monthly general meeting today (June 16) at 10.45 am at Rosary High School, Navelim. Issues related to post office, PWD water supply, Goa Dairy milk, health, road safety and traffic management, ration and kerosene supplies, home delivery of LPG cylinders, banking, BSNL telephones and cable TV will be discussed. Past pupils meeting
MARGAO: The annual general body meeting of of Perpetualites Past Pupils Association, Navelim, will be held today (June 16) at 4 pm in the school hall.
The meeting will deliberate on the annual report, presentation of the accounts and election of the new committee. All the ex-students of PSC, Navelim, are invited for the same, stated PPPA secretary Sr Anny SFN.
