Goenchim Kirnnam bags Mando Award

PANJIM: Goenchim Kirnnam, Deusua, bagged the prestigious Mando Award-2013 at the 47th All Goa State-level Mando Festival-2013, organized by the Goa Cultural & Social Centre in Collaboration with Department of Art & Culture and Kala Academy at Campal on December 12.

PANJIM: Goenchim Kirnnam, Deusua, bagged the prestigious Mando Award-2013 at the 47th All Goa State-level Mando Festival-2013, organized by the Goa Cultural & Social Centre in Collaboration with Department of Art & Culture and Kala Academy at Campal on December 12. Commissioner for NRI Affairs, Dr Wilfred Menezes Mesquita was the Chief Guest at the concluding ceremony.
Dr Mesquita highlighted the importance of preserving the age old tradition of Mando and Dulpods and pass on this legacy for posterity. He further said that these folk art form part of our cultural heritage and it becomes responsibility of all Goans to promote this unique and rich form as our folk art and prevent it from becoming a fusion with the mixture of western and Indian instruments. MLAs Nilesh Cabral and Rohan Khaunte were also present.
Earlier President of Goa Cultural and Social Centre Milagres Fernandes welcomed while Vice President Issac Dias proposed the vote of thanks. The function was compered by Dr Bikaji Ghanekar, Ninfa da Silva and Shakila Shaikh. 
In children’s category, the first three prizes were bagged by Little Flower of Jesus HS, Calangute, Porvorichim Sobit Fulam, Porvorim and Manorachim Morim, Manora Raia respectively, In traditional category the first three prizes went to Goenchi Kirnam, Deussua, Goenchim Noketram, Sarzora and Sant Antonicho Suadik Naad, Majorda respectively. In original category, Goenchim Kirnamm, Deussua, Goenchim Noketram, Sarzora and Mando Mogi Margao bagged the three prizes. In dance category, Goenchim Noketram, Sarzora, Goenchim Kirnam, Deusua and Mando Mogi Margao bagged the honours.
