CUNCOLIM: Ojaswi Satish Fal Dessai, a 13-year-girl from Cuncolim is just a step away from bagging the Kalpana Chawla National Scholarship in the United States.
A student of Vidhya Vikas Academy, Margao, Ojaswi has been short listed for Kalpana Chawla National Scholarship. If she gets through the final list, she will able to study at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States.
Ojaswi appeared for an online examination of Kalpana Chawla National Scholarship where she cleared the first stage and to make her dream a reality, the Cuncolim girl now has to clear another exam for which she is preparing hard.
Ojaswi Satish Fal Dessai wants to follow the footsteps of late Kalpana Chawla, an American astronaut and the first woman of Indian origin in space.
“I am eager to fulfil my dream and am excited to witness the functioning of NASA. I do not want to miss this opportunity and am confident of bagging the scholarship,” Ojaswi told Herald.
Ojaswi is the daughter of Dr Satish Fal Dessai, who runs a dispensary at Cuncolim and of Tanuja Fal Dessai, a lecturer at Mallikarjun College, Canacona. Ojaswi’s elder brother is pursuing medical studies.
The Cuncolim girl has many laurels to her credit. She was the champion of International Pan Pacific held at Pattaya and stood third at the national level Vidyarthi Vighyan Manthan in 2016. Besides, she has participated in various competitions and secured prizes in intra and inter-school activities.
Besides studies, Ojaswi loves playing chess and badminton and dreams of becoming a scientist. Cuncolim Citizens Committee, Cuncolim Balli Ganeshotsav Mandal, Cuncolim Kshatriya Maratha Samaj and other organisations have wished her success.
