Car runs over leg of woman scribe in city

A woman journalist who was riding pillion was injured after a car came from behind and ran over her leg. She fell off the bike when her rider friend braked to avoid hitting an Innova vehicle which halted abruptly and opened the door at Campal, Monday. She underwent a major surgery on Tuesday.

She fell off the bike when her rider friend braked to avoid hitting an Innova vehicle which halted abruptly and opened the door at Campal, Monday. She underwent a major surgery on Tuesday.

Two cars were involved in the accident.

Rakesh Kamle, a resident of St Cruz and driver of Innova car and Yuvraj Dhopala of Dona Paula, driver and the owner of Bolero jeep GA-07-E-1896 were both arrested by Panjim police and subsequently released on bail. 

The journalist, working with a Konkani daily was a pillion while her friend was riding the bike, when the driver of Innova car abruptly halted and opened the door, and both fell off the road. 

“The biker applied brakes… She was flung behind and the Bolero car coming from behind ran over one of her legs… She suffered severe leg injuries for which she underwent surgery on Tuesday,” said a police official. 

Head Constable Sanjiv Salunke said the drivers have been booked under Sections 279 for rash driving and 338 of IPC for causing grievous hurt and section 134 A and B of Motor Vehicles Act.
