PANJIM: Parents-Teachers Council of Valpoi-based Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya on Sunday petitioned Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani urgent repair works of the structure, which is in an alarming state of despair.
A delegation of five members met the union minister at Dona Paula where she was invited to address IIT directors. They pointed out that the weak structures are in litigation even as 360 students from Class VI to XII and 50 staffers continue to carry out their academic studies in the dilapidated buildings. “Due to the order of High Court to maintain status quo in the disputed land bearing Survey No 41/1 of Massordem village of Sattari measuring 117950 sq mts, no major repair, renovation of the buildings or permission of extensions of buildings…could be done,” reads the two-page memorandum copy.
They also stressed the need to fix the leakages on the walls and roof of the institute run by HRD ministry, which have been a worry during the monsoon as it poses safety threat to students and staffers.
The council members further claimed that the two-and-half decade-old institute has obtained cent percent result not only in academic performance but also in the field of sports, culture and other co-curricular activities.
The land, which was given by the State government reached the court when in 1996, Maria Pinho and others claimed their ownership. In 2012, the High Court ruled in favour of Pinho and others. With a lot of time being consumed to sort out the matter, the litigation is being dragged. The school council also urged that government should take favourable steps to acquire the disputed land from the plaintiff or obtain necessary permission from the court to immediately start construction or repair works of the buildings, before any disaster occurs.
