PANJIM: Drishti’s Special Response Services described today’s joint rescue operation with the Coast Guard as a daring one, an exercise which demonstrated the commitment of the agency to the task entrusted to it to save lives even as its extended contract lapses on July 31, 2013.
The rescue operation according to top officials of Drishti was carried out by four of their best lifeguards launched on two jet skis.
The lifeguards not only rescued the fishermen from the choppy waters but also performed mid-sea CPR and stabilization techniques regardless of their personal safety and stayed floating in the cold ferocious monsoon sea till all were brought to safety.
A member of Drishti’s senior management said, “It is for these boys that we are continuing to work for 45 days without a contract.” With Drishti’s extended contract expiring tomorrow and no word from the government, one wonders whether this is Drishti’s last rescue.
