PONDA: Heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds continued to cause widespread damage to properties in the taluka as several trees crashed on houses, vehicles and electric poles, during the past few days.
Employees of the Fire and Electricity Departments were busy attending calls for the past many days as rains crossed the 100-inch mark in a record time.
Sushil Morajkar of the Ponda fire station said the fire team attended 88 calls in eight days as several incidents of trees crashing on houses, roads, electric wires and parked vehicles were reported. The fire team was busy clearing trees that crashed at various places in Ponda and Dharbandora till late night.
The Kundaim Fire Station team operating from Kundaim Industrial Estate was busy clearing trees that crashed in Priol constituency.
Sudan Cuncolienkar, EE at Curti Sub-Station said that around 35 electricity poles and conductors were also damaged. He said the department on a daily basis has cleared most calls and has restored the lines.
Besides, walls of several mud houses collapsed in Ponda taluka causing losses to owners.
