PANJIM: Daisy Crasto and Karen Estrocio have been selected in the 35-member probables for the U-17 Wormen’s World Cup 2020 preliminary camp to be held in Goa.
The duo represented Goa in the Hero National U-17 Junior Football Championship held at Solhapur wherein their performance caught the eye of the selectors for the camp.
Daisy plays as a defender while Karen is a striker and had scored a hat-trick for Goa in the National Junior Championship held at Solhapur.
“A selection committee meeting was held in Kohlapur immediately after the conclusion of the Hero Junior Girls National Football Championship 2019-20 to analyse the performances of scouted probables from the tournament,” stated AIFF in a press release.
The committee took into consideration the scouted players from various state trials, and drew up a preliminary list of 35 probables, all of whom have been summoned for a coaching camp for India’s FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup India 2020 campaign.
The probables will be reporting to coach Alex Ambrose, former India International. Amrbose, was earlier in charge as Head Coach of India U-19 National Team last year.
Meanwhile, the GFA has requested the AIFF to conduct selection trials to spot talented players who could not participate in the Nationals due to their SSC examination. The GFA coach Carol Gomes opined that there is more talent available in Goa itself and that further scouting needs to be undertaken for selecting the best India team. In all fairness, a chance should be provided to those who could not attend the preparatory camp to select the State team for National Junior event solely due to the exams, Carol added.
The GFA has contacted the AIFF officials Anil Kamat and Maymol Rocky in New Delhi and they have in principle agreed to the suggestion which they said is in the interest of the country. Further scouting is expected to be done, they added.
Sapna Rani, Asst.Manager, Women’s Football and Academies, AIFF Women’s Department, who arrived in Goa, when contacted, hailed the suggestion concerning further scouting and that the Goa girls who missed the nationals due to the examinations shall be provided a chance to showcase their talent at the selection trials, and if proved to be highly talented they would be called for the national camp.
