VASCO: Roquezinho D’ Souza, is your average ordinary boy next door. He has, in a unique initiative, which for all purposes should have been called “project dignity” taken the initiative to get a ‘Family protection kit” designed for family members of those who succumb to COVID.
This kit is akin to a personal protective equipment will give confidence o a family member of a deceased COVOID victim the confidence to handle the body of their loved ones and partake in their last rites, to ensure dignity to the lost ones
An awareness camp was held to distribute the locally designed Family protection kit
Velsao-Pale-Issorcim village panchayat becomes the first panchayat to organise a COVID-19 awareness camp and distributed the kits. A Family Safety Kit contains PPE kit, hand gloves, face shield, masks, sanitiser bottle and a plastic body bag. The camp was attended by the Nodal Officer of South Goa District Hospital, Dr Rajesh Patil.
Roquezinho mentioned that the kit can be used during the shifting of dead bodies in a hearse van or during burial, after the use of this kit, it should be disposed of in a proper biomedical method, he added.
Later, he told reporters that the main reason to prepare FPK is that family members feel hesitant to attend to the dead body. They feel worried about moving the dead body of a COVID patient who had died at home. “The FPK will play a good role in terms of the safety of the people handling the body. Panch members have been given this kit and they can give this to needy families. This initiative was taken up to help the people and safeguard them” D’ Souza said.
Meanwhile, Sylvia DSouza Dy sarpanch of Velsao stated that the initiative of Roquezinho D’ Souza was excellent and the ‘panchayat felt good’.
