MARGAO: In one of Goa’s most enduring traditions, the procession honouring Mother Mary was held at Navelim. The tradition is about a century old and took place early morning on November 6, Monday.
The procession carrying the statue of Our Lady was taken from Telaulim chapel to Our Lady of Rosary Church in Navelim, where the first Novena Mass was held.

Thousands of people joined in the early morning candle lit procession.
This significant event has evolved over the years. Initially, the procession featured Our Lady of Carmel, which arrived from Portugal. Then as years passed, an elder Jose Minguel Pires de Menezes decided that it should be Our Lady of Fatima instead of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, to be taken in the procession from the year 1949. From then onwards, the statue of Our Lady of Fatima was taken on procession,” a devotee, said.
The procession has grown from a few hundred to thousands of devotees, making it a remarkable expression of faith and devotion.
The tradition continues to be a testament to the enduring faith and commitment of the local community, marking an important milestone in the religious calendar of Goa.
