Valankani in quarters

Valankani Sports Club, Arambol overcame Nerul Sports Club 4-2 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of Sodiem Siolim super soccer tournament organised by Sodiem Siolim Sports and Cultural Association, at St Anthony’s church ground, Siolim, on Saturday. The scores were levelled 1-1 at half time.
Nerul took the lead in the 25th minute when Dayaneshwar Madgaonkar slotted past the rival goalkeeper. In the 29th minute, Valankani’s Jason Fernandes equalised.
Changing over, the teams went all-out for the match-winner but were unable to find the target. In the ensuing tie-breaker, Valankani scored through Jason Fernandes, Bruno Fernandes and Jovito D’Souza while Nerul found the net through Avinash Shirodkar. Valankani’s goalkeeper Vitorino saved three attempts.
