MARGAO: The Shadow Council for Margao on Tuesday condemned the PWD and Margao Municipal Council for its irresponsible and lethargic behaviour, which is resulting in continuous loss to the public exchequer through frequent repair works at the Margao-Navelim junction.
As the PWD Div XIV descended at the road junction near Navelim Church, Shadow Council for Margao Convener Savio Coutinho along with other members confronted the supervisor and contractors over the work which didn’t last for even a month.

Coutinho reminded the PWD supervisor about the CERTIFICATE FOR EXCELLENT ENGINEERING which was presented to the PWD on 21st July 2020, when repair work was undertaken at the spot. “We had mentioned to the PWD supervisor that the Certificate for Excellent Engineering was not any form of appreciation but in fact was a mockery of the department’s inability to diagnose the problem and find out a permanent solution at the Navelim Church junction”, Coutinho said.
Not even a month had passed, and the PWD was back with its display of inefficiency, Coutinho further charged. It is truly disgusting to realize that the PWD engineers cannot understand that the root cause for the deterioration of the road, was on account of the clogged drainage system on the Margao side of the junction, Coutinho lamented.
SCM demanded that the concerned divisions of the PWD and the Margao Municipal Council should immediately coordinate and check the drainage system at the junction. Shadow Council further issued a stern warning to the concerned authorities that henceforth no repair work shall be permitted at this junction at public cost, until a permanent solution is worked out at this junction.
