Union Rural Development Agency Minister Jairam Ramesh has sanctioned 760 kms of road network for Goa for implementation in the state’s rural areas. State RDA Minister Avertano Furtado, who has returned from Delhi after a meeting with the Union RDA Minister, told Herald that Goa has been sanctioned 760 km of roads for execution in the villages. “The road construction project will be fully funded by the centre under the RDA scheme. We will take up the work across the state”, he said.
Avertano said the centre has also promised to support implementation of various schemes in the state under the RDA scheme. “There are a whole lot of schemes under the RDA which my department has planned to implement in Goa, including schemes for BPL families in the state”, he added.
The RDA Minister said there’s no dearth of Central funds for the implementation of RDA schemes in the state, and called upon village panchayats to avail of various schemes including construction of panchayat ghars, community halls, roads etc.
Meanwhile, Avertano, who also holds the Labour Portfolio, said the Centre has assured to sanction funds for the purchase of medical equipments for the upgraded ESI hospital at Margao. “The ESI hospital is completed in all respects, but has been awaiting commissioning because of the medical equipments. The Centre has now promised to sanction funds to procure medical equipments required in the hospital”, he said.
Replying to a question, Avertano said the upgraded ESI hospital will be commissioned once all the medical equipments fall in place. “We can inaugurate the building even today, but it will not be proper to inaugurate the building without the medical equipments”, he added.
