MARGAO, SEPT 12
Non-governmental Organisations, students, church organizations and Panchayat Raj institutions joined hands in Colva on Sunday to tackle the plastic menace in the tourist village.
The anti-plastic drive on the theme “Help prevent cancer, stop burning plastic now” was jointly organised by the Colva Parish Council, Parish Youth, JCI Colva and Lions Club of Colva in collaboration with the Zilla Panchayat and the Colva Panchayat.
In his address, the Parish Priest of Colva Church, Fr Diago Fernandes said it is the responsibility and duty of everyone to work hard to give something good for the villagers and the thousands of tourists who flock to the village every year.
“Thousands of people come to the village every year to see the beautiful village of Colva. They come to have fun and we have to provide something good for them”, he added.
Fr Diago said that the anti-plastic drive should continue with the help of local MLA Mickky Pacheco, ZP member Nelly Rodrigues and the Panchayat body by holding the drive every two month.
In his brief address, Benaulim MLA Mickky Pacheco complimented the NGOs and Church organizations for organizing the anti-plastic drive and expressed his support for the anti-plastic activity.
“This is indeed a good work in this peaceful village of Colva. This is necessary as the population is increasing, but there’s no provision to solve these problems”, he added.
Calling upon the villagers to maintain peace in the village as Colva is known for peace, Pacheco said the village can be kept clean and green with united efforts from everyone.
