Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza has questioned the prospects of political entrants who become active only a few months before elections, saying voters may be reluctant to accept candidates who appear on the political scene at the last moment.
D’Souza said that if the Goa Assembly elections are held early next year, only around four months may remain before the Model Code of Conduct comes into effect.

He argued that those serious about contesting elections should have spent the previous four years working among the people, addressing local concerns and raising issues affecting their constituencies, rather than entering active politics just three or four months before polling.
D’Souza said his own team has remained active on the ground for the past four-and-a-half years, maintaining that their work is focused on serving people rather than being limited to election periods.
He said sustained engagement with voters and consistent work on local issues are important for building public trust ahead of elections.
