The Bombay High Court on Wednesday, September 2, ordered a CBI investigation into the death of Disha Salian, former manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who died after falling from the 14th floor of a high-rise in Mumbai’s Malad area in June 2020.
A division bench of Justice Sarang Kotwal and Justice Ranjitsinha Bhonsale directed the CBI to appoint a senior and experienced officer to investigate the case. The court, however, cautioned that no person should be treated as an accused unless the investigating officer finds sufficient material against them.

The court directed the investigating officer to file a chargesheet at the earliest if a cognisable offence is established. If no such offence is found, the officer must file appropriate closure proceedings before the competent court. Disha’s father, Satish Salian, has been given liberty to file a protest petition.
Satish had approached the High Court seeking an FIR, alleging that his daughter was gang-raped and murdered. Mumbai Police has maintained that she died after falling from the building and said it found no evidence to prosecute anyone for murder.
During the hearing, the court observed that the allegations could be either true or false, but an FIR should have been registered to bring the matter to a final conclusion.
