According to information, the 83-metre long vessel with 14 Indian crew members (including the Master) was transiting from Kandla port in Gujarat and proceeding to Karwar in Karnataka when it developed a crack in the hull and started taking in water. She was carrying approximately 1750 tonnes of Asphalt.
On receiving the distress call, the Indian naval ship Trikand from Western Naval Command immediately responded to the call. Despite rough seas, the ship responded immediately by sending team of four personnel, including two officers, and high speed de-watering pumps. Coast Guard Ships Amal and Shoor and a tug from Goa were made available for assistance and another naval ship INS Kondul was placed on standby. Helicopters were also prepared for immediate evacuations.
“Finally, the vessel was escorted by INS Trikand and the two CG ships to Karwar harbour and the same is safely berthed at Karwar Port,” RAdm Puneet Kumar Bahl said.
