Six held in cricket betting at Porvorim

PORVORIM: Porvorim Police busted a cricket betting racket in their jurisdiction and arrested six persons.

According to information obtained from the Porvorim Police Station, a team on patrolling received information that some persons were allegedly accepting bets illegally on the ongoing Pakistan Super League tournament being held in Pakistan. The information received said that an illegal activity is being carried out on the first floor of a building located in Alto Porvorim. 

A search warrant was obtained and the premises was raided, during which, six persons were allegedly found accepting bets through WhatsApp on the ongoing cricket match between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United.

The arrested persons are identified as Virendra Ranshoor (28), Aditya Singh (23), Chandradev Singh Thakur (28), Amit Kacchwala (25), Digvijay Dewangan (28) and Prashant Bagh (30).

During the raid, the police also seized articles worth Rs 5 lakh used for gaming including 13 mobile handsets, three laptops, one iPod, a WiFi router, bank cheque books and note books. Porvorim Police are further investigating the case.
