PANJIM: In a sudden turn of events, Fomento Group in its submission before the High Court of Bombay at Goa, stated that it has decided to hand over the plant to Margao Municipal Council (MMC). In response to this development, the bench has asked the firm to continue with its ongoing operation for one week, while directing MMC to plan taking over the plant.
The fire incidents at the Sonsoddo dump last year had sent alarm signals to the court that issued instructions based on a PIL. Due to the dispute with Fomento Green, MMC has ended up paying crores of rupees in fines, penalties and monies mandated to the concessionaire in the arbitration. Fomento’s decision comes to pursue claims in arbitration.
