MAPUSA: As many in Goa tracked the Budget recommendations of the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, a group of simple bank account holders of the Ashtagandha Urban Co-operative Credit Society Ltd in Assonora, headed to their bank since all cheques issued by them were bouncing and they were not able to withdraw any funds from their accounts for months.
The bank manager when confronted by account holders blurted out the inevitable. He said that currently there was no money in the bank due to “irregular recovery” but the “recovery process is on”.

This was little or no consolation to those whose hard-earned money has simply vanished.
Furious depositors of gathered outside the bank premise alleging that the bank has cheated them as they could not withdraw funds from their accounts for several months. A lady depositor even had tears in her eyes while asking the manager to get back her own hard-earned money.
Depositors claimed that their FD and pigmy collection have vanished from their accounts while cheques given by the bank bounced.
Locals have demanded immediate legal action against the bank.
Nilesh Naik local panch member said, “There are around 200 depositors who are facing major inconvenience to get back their money due to the irresponsible actions of the bank. People have deposited that hard-earned money thinking that it will remain safe, but they have to visit to the bank repeatedly with no sign of when their money would be available again. We request the Chief Minister to look into the matter and take legal action against the bank.”
A depositor informed that for several months he is visiting the bank to get his one lakh rupees.
Depositors claimed that they were visiting the bank again and again to get their money and every time, the staff gives them a new date assuring them that they will get the money on that date but it does not happen, they said.
