SANGUEM: The forest department in Quepem and the concerned medical officers of Government Primary Health Centre Sanguem and Quepem were kept on their toes after two monkeys were reported to have been found dead one at Bhatiwaddo ward of Rivona and another at Ambaulim in Quepem taluka.
In the first instance, Rivona Deputy Sarpanch Jose Alphonso informed the RFO attached to Quepem Division Arun Talwadkar that one monkey is found dead at Bhatwaddo ward of Rivona Panchayat and urged the RFO to conduct forensic examination of the monkey to allay any fears of the dreaded monkey disease spreading in the village.
While the RFO Talwadkar was in the process of completing with the desired formalities of getting the medical team from Sanguem PHC to conduct the post mortem on the monkey found dead at Rivona, another call was received from the health officials attached to the Quepem PHC claiming that a monkey was found dead in a decomposed state at Ambaulim village in Quepem.
RFO Tawadkar with him team of officials immediately rushed to the Ambaulim village and collected the body of the monkey and brought the same to the forest department premises at Quepem.
Later, a team of specialists was requisitioned by the officials attached to the Sanguem PHC to conduct a detailed post mortem on the two monkeys which was completed late in the evening.
The viscera and other remains of the two monkeys are now sent for further report and detailed examination to Pune, informed Quepem RFO Arun Talwadkar.
