I was misquoted,says CM

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat denied having made anything against women getting 33 per cent reservation in politics.
“I was misquoted by a section of the media,” the CM clarified in a press statement sent through the Department of Information.
Even though some women groups had mentioned the CM indeed had made the statement but it was not as harsh as made out, Kamat went on to say, “Speaking on women self-help groups I had stated that after succeeding in getting 33 per cent reservation in elected bodies, women should now concentrate on economic independence as their topmost priority.”
“The women’s SHGs now have a very high responsibility in society towards this end. Economic independence for women is important as it would give a fillip to the uplifting of society as a whole,” the CM stated.
Clarifying further, he mentioned, “I have throughput my career in politics supported women in politics and will not even in my wildest dreams speak against such reservations. We need more vibrant and dynamic women leaders in politics to render justice.”
