MAPUSA: The Congress has alleged that since the BJP government is hand in gloves with the “drug mafia”, it has failed to combat drug trafficking in coastal belt.
Addressing the media in Mapusa, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said that under BJP rule, drugs were being freely traded and openly consumed.
He said that though the coastal belt has been witnessing a high level of sound pollution, not a single raid has been conducted by the police due to the nexus between drug mafia and entertainers who enjoy the patronage of the ruling politicians.
“High decibel music is played late night in shacks and night clubs which shatters the peace in the village and affect the health of the people. On the other hand, Goan weddings and religious functions are stopped sharp at 10 pm,” Reginaldo said.
“Drugs have reached the villages and have already started ruining the life of youngsters who are the future of Goa. Drugs have now even reached the gates of educational institutes,” Congress leader Adv Ramakant Khalap said.
“The whole world knows that drugs are available all along the Goan shores. Tourists come to Goa, because they know that drugs are easily available here and they can also indulge in anti-social activities with impunity. All this is are attributable to the absence of a functioning government,” Khalap claimed.
He said that in absence of chief minister, somebody else should be given the authority to take the decisions of the chief minister and ridiculed the BJP for not being able to find a substitute for Manohar Parrikar.
