A 47-year-old garage owner from Khariwado-Vasco died, while two persons were seriously injured in three different accidents in Vasco on Tuesday.
In the first accident, garage owner and mechanic Ganpati Naik alias Ganpat was knocked down by a Sumo vehicle along the NH-17 B near ZIOTL, Sancoale, at about 12.30 pm.
The accident occurred when Naik, who had gone to Vasco, stopped mid way to see a coal-laden truck that had met with a self accident along the highway at about 11.30 am.
Naik’s curiosity to see an ill-fated truck that met with accident proved costly. Naik while crossing the road, a speeding Sumo (GA-02-C-8405) knocked him down. He breathed his last on the way to Hospicio in Margao.
The driver and cleaner of the coal-laden truck, which met with self-accident, escaped unhurt. The duo fled from the site leaving the truck abandoned on the road.
However, while the police was in the process of completing investigation formalities of the earlier two accidents, one more accident occurred a few metres away from earlier accident site, in which two persons were seriously injured. The accident occurred when a speeding tempo (GA-02-V-6193) rammed against a truck (GA-05-T-0684), which was parked along the NH-17B.
Verna Police PI Jivba Dalvi informed that tempo driver Jose Gonsalves (40) of Arlem-Raia and his accomplice Appa Naik (48) from Borim-Shiroda sustained serious injuries. Verna police have registered offence in all the three accidents and is investigating further.
