jellyfish, putting a painful dampener on their Goan vacation. A tourist from Ireland who was taking part in water sports activities at Colva was stung by a jellyfish on Friday.
Another tourist from Bengaluru was also stung by a jellyfish while going for a swim in the sea. The injuries on their skin were considered to be minor.
There have been complaints about the presence of jellyfish in other parts of the coastal State too.In North Goa, recently a picture of a large number of jelly fish at Caranzalem beach had gone viral. There, local fishermen had also complained about the jellyfish coming in the way of their fishing activity.
The tourists, like those in Colva, said that there needs to be more awareness about the presence of jellyfish in the sea. The tourists were seen approaching shacks for help, as the lifeguards in several places could not administer first-aid for jellyfish stings, which are very painful. A solution of warm water and vinegar helps relieve pain after a jellyfish sting. Locals who go on morning walks in neighbouring beaches like Benaulim have also spotted dried jellyfish on the beach.
