OLD GOA: In could be a direct challenge to the Sunburn event, Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco’s event management company plans to organise an electronic dance music festival in South Goa from December 27 to 29.
Speaking to Herald, Pacheco who also runs Bresources Event Management Company said: “I also run an event management company and I’m also having a show on December 27, 28 and 29 in South Goa and my event is a bigger show then the Sunburn which will feature world’s top 10 electronic DJs.”
“I will not oppose Sunburn in Goa, but I love challenges and if the organisers of Sunburn like to organise their show in Candolim or Calangute, I will still go ahead with my show in South Goa,” stated Pacheco.
“Though initially I’m the one responsible to get Sunburn to Goa, I love to compete with others and since I have my own event management company, which has already organised a couple of shows, I will definitely organise one of the biggest shows of electronic dance music festival in South Goa,” he added.
He said the State government should give opportunity to more Goans to organise such shows in the State. “Goa is a westernized state and only Goans knows about the culture of electronic music. If I can organize such huge shows in the last two years, then why not Goans,” he asked.
Meanwhile, speaking to Herald during his visit at a function in Bambolim, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said: “The government hasn’t said that Sunburn will not take place in Candolim, but it’s only the views of the tourism minister due to certain traffic congestion in Candolim area.”
“I have also raised similar views that if Sunburn has to take place in Candolim, then there have to be some rules and regulations, as the rules and regulations of the single window committee of the Tourism Department are only on paper, but in reality it doesn’t take place. Hence, as Calangute MLA I would like to see the entire file,” he said.
Asked about the tourism minister stating that he was confident that this time Candolim will not host Sunburn event, Lobo said: “I once again say that the government has never said no to Candolim, but it’s the tourism minister’s views and I strongly feel that Sunburn should not go out of Goa.”
“I will not allow the Sunburn to be organised like it was organised in the last six years. I want the Sunburn event to be organized more professional, as I do not want traffic jams and noise pollution in the area,” he said.
