Gunning for Beef Ban

The statement made by VHP’s functionary Acharya Radha Krishna Manori that “VHP will not require the help of any government to stop cow slaughter or consumption of beef as our Bajrang Dal and Durga Vahini groups are capable of doing it in the next one or two years ” and as reported by the local media is outrageous and shocking, specially to the minorities and all secular minded sections of Goans.
Should we the people belonging to minority communities take such statements and threats seriously? Of course the answer is a big YES, particularly after watching on the TV screens the violent incidents taking place in UP and other BJP ruled states.
As boasted by the VHP, that it does not need the Government action to implement their illegal and unconstitutional dictats, this is absolutely true. Since the above mentioned fringe groups have been embolden and are enjoying extra constitutional muscle power to enforce their sordid schemes by using intimidation, threats of extortion and even brute violence and nothing convincing seems to be done to curb such nefarious activities.
Unfortunately due to negligence, inability and failure of successive governments over several years the unemployment rate of educated men and women in the country is rising exponentially and religious and political groups can easily swell up their rank and file using these unemployed volunteers, who then can be easily indoctrinated and brainwashed to indulge into dangerous anti-secular and communalistic activities.
Now coming back to Goa, and taking cognisance of reality of the threats that can be inflicted on Goans by a mob of goons invading people’s private kitchens and bedrooms, who can give a genuine assurance in unequivocal terms that such atrocities will not be allowed to happen in Goa?
Certainly it can come only from the Chief Minister of Goa and backed by the leaders of parties that are supporting the coalition government. They should also state very explicitly what steps they intend to take in this regards.
Will these leaders be bold enough to speak out publicly to assuage the real fears developing in the minds of secular and peace loving people of Goa?
